The South Florida Trombone Workshop is dedicated to inspiring and empowering young trombonists through exceptional instruction, ensemble performance, and mentorship. Our goal is to foster musical growth, creativity, and a lifelong passion for the trombone.

SFLTW ensembles are exposed to a variety of genres including Classical, Jazz, and Commercial styles

Professional Level

Tailored for seasoned trombonists seeking to refine their artistry and expand their professional networks.

College Level

Designed for college trombonists honing skills in diverse repertoire, preparing for auditions and recitals.

High School Level

Crafted for high school trombonists building technique and confidence through dynamic ensemble work and performance.

YOUTH CAMP

The SFLTW Youth Camp provides students entering 7-12 grade an opportunity to experience the South Florida Trombone Workshop in a one-week immersive program where we focus on: Classical, Jazz and commercial trombone performance. Campers will attend all SFLTW masterclasses, concerts, and clinics, and will also have activities designed specifically for their age and ability including: ​
  • Audition preparation and coaching
  • Guided discussions with SFLTW Faculty on career opportunities in music
  • Opportunities to rehearse and perform in a trombone chamber ensemble and trombone choir
  • Opportunities to schedule private lessons with SFLTW faculty
Campers will be supervised by Student Counselors, allowing parents to drop their children off with confidence.

ABOUT
OUR DIRECTOR

Trombonist Ruben Caban, born in Puerto Rico, has performed with artists like Frankie Valli, Jon Secada, Herbie Hancock, and Arturo Sandoval across various genres. He’s featured on Ed Calle’s 2015 Latin Grammy-winning album Mamblue. In 2018, Caban released his debut solo album Shafted, earning international acclaim and a 2018 Global Music Awards medal. 
He holds a Master’s in Jazz Performance from Florida International University, studying with jazz greats like Michael Orta and Wycliffe Gordon. As an educator, he teaches jazz theory and Afro-Caribbean music globally and currently instructs at Broward College, Miami-Dade College, and Barry University.
